Ophiocordyceps Sinensis (commonly known as Caterpillar Fungus): a very high value produce that until recently can only be harvested in the wild under very specific condition. It has been touted as “the Viagra of the Himalayas” and offer medicinal properties comparable to or higher than those in ginseng. The best quality Caterpillar Fungus that grow in the wild can fetch up to USD 50,000 a pound and is outside the financial mean of everyone except royalties and the ultra rich. Much effort has gone into cultivating the Caterpillar fungus in controlled environment. The price is now within the mean of many people but it is still a high value product. Many scientific studies have been conducted. Below is a study from the College of Science of Utah State University
